Water service restored to Buffalo-area towns after outage

A 36 inch water main broke in Erie County causing a drop in pressure which is the reason for the concern as the Monroe County Water Authority purchases water from Erie County to supply the Western part of Genesee County. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. It is likely that you will need to boil water for two or three days until we can confirm the water quality.

7 Eyewitness News learned Friday morning that crews in Amherst were dealing with another water main break on North Forest Road between Sheridan and Indian Trail Road.

If the second round of test results from the county Health Department and Water Authority come back negative, the boil water advisory will be lifted.

People in Amherst, Cheektowaga, Clarence, Lancaster Newstead and the villages of Depew, Lancaster and Williamsville are advised to boil any water used for drinking, cooking, washing dishes and produce or for making ice.

The authority anticipates water quality testing now being taken in the area will take several days.
