Agency: Police say some dead in Munich shooting

The OEZ is one of Munich’s most popular shopping centres, containing doctors’ practices and other services as well as stores.

Police are urging people to avoid public places and said that they could not confirm if there were other crime scenes apart from Hanauer Street. People could be seen running and screaming through the centre of the city.

Staff in the shopping centre were still in hiding, an employee told Reuters.

Munich public transit operator MVG says all subway, bus and trolley cars have been shut down because of the police operation until further notice. The latest reports suggest that police are still evacuating the building.

The Olympia-Einkaufszentrum mall is less than 2 miles from the 1972 Munich Summer Olympic Village, where terrorists kidnapped and killed 11 Israeli athletes in a bloody 20-hour siege that made worldwide headlines and threatened to derail the global sporting event.

British nationals in Germany are being advised to comply with instructions from local authorities. “We believe we are dealing with a shooting rampage. The witnesses said there were three different people with weapons”.

A spokesperson for police in Munich described the incident as a “possible terror attack” while speaking to a German radio station.
