After more than four years of negotiating, SWAPA and Southwest Airlines continue to meet in mediated sessions through the National Mediation Board. Those disruptions spilled over into Thursday as company official said almost 450 flights were canceled for the day.

A massive technology outage at the airline forced failures that affected hundreds of nationwide flights Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the LAX website, four Southwest arrivals and four departures will be delayed today during a time frame extending through early afternoon, with all other flights either on time or early. Southwest had big technology problems on Wednesday.
Although when checking the boards, many flights were reporting to be departing on time with minimal cancellations, many Southwest Airlines passengers told NBC5 they had been waiting more than two hours.
“Today is actually the first day we were in more of a recovery plan”. “We have significant redundancies built into our mission-critical systems, and those redundancies did not work”, Southwest chief executive Gary Kelly said Thursday.
Customers traveling Friday should check their flight status on Southwest.com, which went down briefly Wednesday but was functioning normally Thursday, officials said.
Southwest passengers are enduring a third straight day of canceled and delayed flights as the airline struggles to resume normal operations.
Southwest advised customers ticketed to fly Thursday to arrive to the airport early, saying “long lines may occur”. The airline said customers have two weeks from their original date of departure to rebook.

The company said in a statement Friday that much of the lingering problems were caused by displaced flight crews, and that its technology systems had been fully restored. Its website did not allow users to book or check-in to their flights, and issued the message, “We’re working hard to get you where you want to be…”
