Temperatures in Jersey City are expected to reach up to 97 degrees on Saturday, and could reach 98 degrees with a relative humidity of 53 percent on Monday.
Among the cities offering cooling stations are Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend and Gary.
Slow down, stay indoors and avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day. Is open today as well Sunday from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. residents are welcome. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol.
Check on family, friends and neighbors who do not have air conditioning, who spend much of their time alone or who are more likely to be affected by the heat. It is imperative that anyone appearing to suffer from heat stroke get immediate medical attention.
“Our cooling centers and municipal pools will be open, and we strongly encourage our residents to take advantage of them throughout the weekend and into next week”. You should call 911 immediately if you have hot, dry skin or cold, clammy skin; trouble breathing; a rapid heartbeat; confusion, disorientation, or dizziness; or nausea and vomiting – as these can be symptoms of heat illness.
For more information, contact 516-573-9600.
There are hundreds of cooling centers available throughout Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, and can be found on the NYC government website here.
