And you get to visit the white house and meet the president. The 2015 team showed the same quality. Obama noted that the Royals held the record for comeback wins in the playoffs.

Obama said Kansas City’s risky combination of contact hitting and aggressive base-running is exciting to watch. “There were some dark years, some tough decades”. Among them: outfielder Alex Gordon, infielders Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer, and catcher Salvador Perez.

“The point that the president was making is rather than mobilize an effective policy response to that situation, by increasing funding for schools or passing common-sense gun control legislation, too often, at least in this Republican Congress, those obvious solutions have been rejected, and as a result, we’ve just asked law enforcement to deal with the problem”, he added. According to the president, that’s like calling him Barack “Barack” Obama. They say initiatives started since Obama took office in 2009 have helped reduce poverty, malnutrition and child mortality.

The president, who lived in Chicago, also said he appreciated Royals’ fans enthusiasm at the All-Star Game ballot box a year ago, when the team’s starting lineup was almost voted in. However, the Royals are still in position to overtake a wild card spot and still have two and a half months of baseball in order to try and defend their American League Central title.

The team gave Obama a Royals jersey with the number 44 in gold lettering, which nicely matched the ornate drapes in the White House East Room.

Press Secretary Josh Earnest calls himself a “lifelong Royals fan” in his Twitter bio and he was clearly very excited to get to work on Thursday as evidenced by his very cool socks.
