Excited by Trump, gay Republicans struggle with rest of GOP
This is why Donald J. Trump – “an agent for change”, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani called him from the convention podium – is such a remarkable, formidable and possibly transformative Republican presidential nominee.

A supporter carries a rifle as he rallies for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at Settlers Landing Park on July 18, 2016, in Cleveland, site of the Republican National Convention.
“Mr Trump has this bling factor which will attract a lot of African American and minorities to at least consider voting for him”, he said.
He reached out to the LGBTQ community, using inclusive language but only assuring their security against a “foreign ideology”.
But the fact that Trump is going to win the Republican nomination does not mean we are done with #NeverTrump.
Similarly, a younger delegate from California smiled and told me, “Of course we should protect gay people”. “I think it’s suicide”, said Hayes, who represents the 10th Congressional District.
I was not to the Republican Party born.
Recalling being present in 1992 listening to Buchanan, Grenell said, “To be here and to really see the acceptance, we made dramatic progress in four years”. The official platform of the party has stubbornly refused reforms, continuing to reject same-sex marriage recognition, attempting to classify it as a state-level issue, yet still calling for federal policies to encourage stable families.
The platform criticizes the agreement the United States and five other world powers reached with Iran past year to limit that country’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Not only did the party include anti-LGBT planks in its platform, adopted by delegates this week in Cleveland, an effort to soften its position by adding language that expresses tolerance for different views was rebuffed, Hayes said.
Wright, who was no longer at NBC at the time, said the network’s 2015 decision to part ways with Trump, after controversial comments connecting Mexican immigrants to drugs and crime, was appropriate. By advancing solutions to these issues that are primarily market-based, and thus more acceptable to conservative and libertarian sensibilities, this center-right political alliance could make progress in areas that are now stymied by hyper-partisan polarization.
“She can find plenty of time to crucify Christians in the USA for perceived anti-gay bias, but when we’ve got ISIS throwing gay people off of buildings, when we have Muslim states that are prescribing the death penalty for people who are gay, I would think this would be something that a friend of the LGBT community would be able to speak out on, and Hillary Clinton finds it unable to do so”. “And they are a special interest that want to have the deals they want to have. My opponent will never meet with them, or share in their pain”.
Adlai Stevenson ran for president, lost twice, and the Democratic Party’s profile hardly changed between 1952 and 1960.
“With the right leadership we can tone down some of the rhetoric, that’s why I have a big struggle with Donald Trump at this point because how do you take back some of the statements that he’s made?”
“His hatred toward anybody is a huge concern”, said Jay Brown of the Human Rights Campaign.
Williams said the music played at the party offered a sharp contrast to the Neil Diamond songs played during the convention earlier in the day. Although he maintained his priority would be “struggling citizens”, he said he’d be “considerate and compassionate to everyone”. “My father values talent”. That’s all too real, and the battles are happening all over, from your local anti-gay bakery to the gender-neutral bathrooms at Target. “He hires the best person for the job”. The plot to unbind the delegates in Cleveland and allow them to vote their conscience was doomed to nearly certain failure from the start and wasn’t even supported by all #NeverTrump folks. As we now move into the general election, the media must be challenged on this kind of shallow, irresponsible reporting that allows Trump to write his own narrative instead of being exposed as a risky fraud who is making promises with the LGBT community’s staunchest enemies.
While Mitt Romney won six percent of the black vote in the 2012, he said, Republicans got 10 percent of the black vote in the 2014 mid-term elections and Ohio Governor John Kasich 26 percent.

Toward this end, last week I was privileged to participate in a small gathering of influential conservative and libertarian leaders who came together for three days to imagine a “more evolved” version of right-wing politics.
