Cyanogen hit by big layoffs, may refocus on apps
OS vendor Cyanogen Inc. on Friday laid off around 30 people, or 20 percent of its workforce, according to AndroidPolice. It appears that the company’s ambition to create a fresh alternative to Google’s Android OS doesn’t appear to be working very well.

One possible reason for the layoffs is because there were really no large clients that Cyanogen Inc. managed to snag especially not after their deal with OnePlus for the Android OnePlus One phone went south, Ars Technica reported. The reports also claims that these layoffs are being performed with no advance notice and employees that were keeping their jobs were told not to come to work today. Once there, they were pushed to meetings with human resources who reportedly laid them off without advanced warnings. You can guess the rest.
According to Android Police the company is letting go about 20% of its workforce, majority are people who work on the open source side at Cyanogen.

Though we’re not sure what Cyanogen is planning to do next, Recode reports that the company is going to be pursuing some new strategy being developed by recent hire Lior Tal, Cyanogen’s new chief operating officer.
