Abrams Not Recasting Chekov for Next ‘Star Trek’ Film
In an interview with Postmedia Network, published by the Toronto Sun, Abrams spoke about the idea of bringing on a new actor, explaining, “I would say there’s no replacing him”. “There’s no re-casting. I can’t possibly imagine that, and I think Anton deserves better”.

Yelchin played Chekov in three of the films.
Directed by Justin Lin, written by Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne and Patrick McCay, Star Trek Beyond stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Lydia Wilson.
Anton Yelchin’s character Chekov will not be recast in the next “Star Trek” film. The 27-year-old actor died in a freak accident when he was pinned against a brick mailbox by his own vehicle. The upcoming film will feature a posthumous performance from the actor, who died in an accident on June 19 at the age of 27.
He said: ‘I have thought about it, we’re working on it, and it’s too early to talk about it’.

Alas, it seemed that her husband – an admitted “Star Trek” fan – didn’t drop in to get his Trekkie fix.
