Donald Trump’s Weird and Wild Post-RNC Speech
After running the most unconventional presidential campaign in modern history, Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination in Cleveland on Thursday with a speech that touched on many themes that are by now familiar: the perceived dangers of immigration, the threat posed by Islamic extremism, and claims that his Democratic challenger, Hillary Clinton, is responsible for numerous world’s ills. I would use those as film clips in the general election.

“There were parts of this speech in particular that I think would reach out and help people to recognise that we want to include more Americans in our party moving forward and help to make America great again”, she said, mentioning Mr Trump’s slogan that he ended his speech with.
“If this Trump speech – and this GOP platform – defines what a Republican is today, then it’s hard to say I’m one”.
In that vein, he checked all the boxes, Florida Rep. John L. Mica said. “Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored”, Trump will say.
But listening to her deliver such a rousing speech at the convention, I’m left wondering: Why can’t she run for President? “I can’t remember seeing a politician do something like that”.
It may, however, pose challenges in bringing in more supporters from key demographics the Republicans need in order to win in November. Mr Trump’s “America first” call, echoing the isolationism of the eponymous movement that tried to keep the USA out of the war against Hitler, could not have been more created to unsettle America’s allies. USA foreign policy is often misconceived, and worse, but it has, on the whole, contributed to an ordered, open and prosperous world in ways no other country has had the power to achieve.
Ivanka Trump was a big hit among the delegates. On Thursday, when I asked him how he felt about the Convention, he beamed.
“When a secretary of state illegally stores her emails on a private server, deletes 33,000 of them so the authorities can’t see her crime, puts our country at risk, lies about it in every different form and faces no effect, I know that corruption has reached a level like never before in our country”.
Cruz did not back down from his non-endorsement Thursday, telling his home-state delegation he won’t vote for Clinton, but making no promise to endorse Trump. However, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, the vice presidential nominee, understands those issues, the House Natural Resources Committee chairman added. They gave me his speech.
And Cruz wasn’t the only subject of Trump’s post-RNC scorn Friday.
Yet he also accused her of “terrible, bad crimes” and said her greatest achievement may have been avoiding prison for her use of a private email and personal server as secretary of state.
The prevailing narrative at the Cleveland convention has not been about Trump’s positions, but dominated instead by the failure of he party’s various factions to unite behind Trump because of lingering concerns over his policy positions and temperament. “And he seems to have an attitude of just completely disregarding it”.
Having attended the Republican conventions since the 1960s, Mica said with confidence, “This isn’t a regular Republican group here”. I hope, if nothing else, the “shoulder to shoulder” comment is true, because there’s only one thing that would make a Donald Trump presidency tolerable: Ivanka by his side.
“Ted never denied that it was his father”, Trump told the room, which CBS News” Sopan Deb reports was largely silent while Trump went on.
“Okay, why isn’t @IvankaTrump running for President?” television actor Anson Mount said in a Twitter post. “I think he’s a lovely guy”, Trump said at a morning-after rally in Cleveland. “Which is a shame”.

Cruz lost the IN primary, dropped out of the race, and never formally endorsed Trump like some other failed 2016 Republican candidates did. The Washington Post said Trump had made “a ridiculous claim”. He got that half right: The four days of the convention will certainly be unforgettable; spectacular is another matter, however. “And what does the Democratic Party establishment offer?”
