Hanley Ramirez goes deep three times against Giants

The Red Sox slugged seven extra-base hits to score all of their runs Wednesday night, and beat the Giants, 11-7, to take three of four games in this interleague series.

The Red Sox moved into first place in the AL East ahead of Baltimore by a half game.

Peavy joined the Red Sox in a deadline deal in 2013 and was traded about a year later. There was a lot of electricity in the ballpark. “They saw two very good baseball games”.

The Twins have played decent as of late, but playing the Red Sox in Fenway is a different ball game.

Mac Williamson hit a three-run homer, over the Green Monster, and the San Francisco right fielder also went over the bullpen wall in pursuit of one of Ramirez’s homers.

The final inning for Pomeranz went as such: walk, single, home run, single, home run, single, single.

Ramirez tipped his cap to crowd as he received a standing ovation walking back to the dugout.

“That’s Sox Nation”, said Ramirez, who had a career-high six RBIs. A day after he put on a batting practice show that impressed even Madison Bumgarner, Williamson had said it didn’t matter much because he wasn’t able to do it in that night’s game.

The Red Sox built their lead to 8-0 before allowing San Francisco to draw within one thanks to a five-run rally in the fourth inning and a two-run burst a frame later.

Dodgers (53-43) at Nationals (57-38), 12:05 p.m. ET: Looking to become the first pitcher to start the season 14-0 since Roger Clemens in 1986, Nats ace Stephen Strasburg (13-0, 2.51 ERA) toes the rubber against Dodgers rookie spot starter Julio Urias (1-2, 4.95 ERA), who gave up two runs over five innings against Washington on June 22. That staked Boston to a 5-0 lead, one that continued to grow without Cain on the mound.

“Every time I get hit, that fires me up”, Ramirez said.

Cain dispensed only seven pitches to get through his first inning since June 13. “Made some bad fastball location pitches and they made me pay for it”. But he admitted he was trying to hit a home run during his sixth inning at-bat.

The left-hander finished the game going three-plus innings, allowing the five runs on eight hits, while striking out two. Give me the Red Sox to keep the train rolling. He allowed two hits and struck out four.

“I’ve faced these guys four times this year”, Pomeranz said. “I had some breaking balls I threw pretty good and some fastballs I threw pretty good”. The right fielder muscled out a three-run homer, and Trevor Brown followed two batters later with a home run high over the Green Monster to cut the lead to 8-5.

Travis Shaw and Sandy Leon also homered for Boston, and Mookie Betts had three hits (see full recap).

Holt’s solo homer to center in the third was Boston’s first hit.

Ramirez hit a two-run shot in the second inning Wednesday night at Fenway Park and another in the third off Giants starter Matt Cain.

Otiz’s homer in the fourth and a solo shot by Brock Holt in the third were more than enough offensive support for Porcello to remain unbeaten at home this season.

Xander Bogaerts is 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs against Duffey. It was Encarnacion’s 26th home run of the season and ninth in his last eight games at Chase.

Suarez worked out of a fourth-inning jam thanks to a spectacular, over-the-shoulder catch by Peña, ending the inning he began with a throwing error.

Home plate umpire Stu Scheurwater immediately issued warnings to both benches. Ramirez walked up the first base line slowly saying to Suarez what appeared to be, “I’ll get you back”.

Red Sox: Put RHP Koji Uehara on the 15-day disabled list with a strain of his pectoral muscle.

Uehara was to be evaluated Wednesday.

“Unfortunately it was an early night for him”, manager John Farrell said.

Giants: Hunter Pence (surgery on right hamstring) isn’t ready to resume rehab with Triple-A Sacramento. “Again, being cautious”, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.
