In 1984, one of Ronald Reagan’s more memorable campaign lines invoked “Morning in America”. “He will fight for equal pay, equal work and I will fight for this right alongside of him”.
The sitting Republican governor of the state hosting the convention, John Kasich, was a no-show.
Eleven months ago, Trump descended on an escalator inside his Fifth Avenue Trump Tower in NY to announce his candidacy for the GOP presidential nomination.
He recently hedged on normally sacrosanct support for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, warning it would depend “if they fulfill their commitments to us”. We will be a country of generosity and warmth.
“We are going to take care of this country first, before we worry about everyone else in the world”, he told the Times. “I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves. This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction, terrorism and weakness”, Mr Trump said. Cruz used that Trump slam as a reason for not honoring a pledge to support the Republican primary victor.
As she pressed the case for her father to be elected the next occupant of the White House, Ivanka Trump was also quietly building her own brand. He did not resort to calling his opponent degrading nicknames, he did not reiterate his proposal of a total ban on Muslims into the country, and he did not echo the crowd’s chants of “lock her up” when talking about Clinton, but said “We’ll defeat her” instead.
But that assertion contradicts Donald Trump’s words more than a decade before.
“After 15 years of wars in the Middle East, after trillions of dollars spent and thousands of lives lost, the situation is worse than it has ever been before”, Trump said, though he did not mention that those wars started under Obama’s Republican predecessor, George W. Bush.
He said: “Our convention occurs at a moment of crisis for our nation”.
The businessman, 70, is expected to deliver a scripted speech with the hopes of allaying party tensions and rallying both Republican leaders and the millions of Americans tuning in for the address. He offered a lot of fear and anger. And politicians regard their family as off-limits to political attacks.
Mr Trump has previously criticised the appearance of Mr Cruz’s wife, Heidi.
The nomination of the hotel developer has been a source of conflict within the party, with some like Mr Cruz questioning his conservative principles.
Others like former nominee Mitt Romney are concerned about his strident tone and extreme stance on immigration.
She tweeted a link to another frock, which sells for $138 as part of the Ivanka Trump collection at Macy’s.

“Politicians talk about wage equality, but my father has made it a practice throughout his company throughout his entire career”, she said as the audience cheered, including her brothers, Eric and Donald Trump Jr.
