AirAsia is already the top Airbus customer by aircraft numbers.
Malaysian discount giant AirAsia Bhd is meanwhile poised to order as many as 100 Airbus A321neos valued at US$12.6 billion, and Go Airlines India Pvt is examining the purchase of 70 smaller A320neos worth about US$7.5 billion that could also come at the show, according to people familiar with their plans.
Virgin Atlantic has ordered 12 new Airbus A350 aircraft for $4.4billion.
Berlin-based leisure airline Germania took the plunge on the A320neo as well with a deal for 25 jets.
However, despite the weather, many multi-million and -billion dollar deals were penned, several of which involved British manufacturer, Rolls-Royce.
Boeing fought back on Tuesday with a volley of deals for the sale of its commercial aircraft – with particularly keen demand from China.
Boeing said that the travel and tourism company TUI Group finalized an order for 10 737 MAX’s and one 787-9 Dreamliner, valued at $1.4 billion.
“This includes the expansion of our long haul holiday programme and providing more choice of flight times and durations to new destinations”.
“ALC already has lease agreements in place with seven different airlines for 737-8 MAX aircraft out of our Boeing delivery stream, starting in the fourth quarter of 2017”, said Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, Executive Chairman of Air Lease Corporation.
There has been concern lately that lower oil prices and weakening economies in key markets including China could reduce the demand for new planes.
Memorandum of understanding for Kunming Airlines to buy 10 737 MAX 7 planes, worth $660 million at list prices.
Boeing added that another unnamed Chinese carrier has signed a commitment for 30 737 jets worth in excess of US$3.0 billion.
“We’re proud that Standard Chartered has chosen the Next-Generation 737 to grow its Aviation Finance business”, said Conner.
The expected fallout from the UK’s decision to leave the European Union especially overshadowed the fair’s opening, after some airlines had posted profit warnings.
