Liverpool Lose Out on Top Left Back Target
The Anfield side had allegedly earmarked the England Under-21 global as a valuable addition to their defence, but the 19-year-old has made the decision to sign a new contract with Leicester instead, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old didn’t play for the Foxes last season in the Premier League, but is very highly rated and was the subject of a number of bids from Liverpool earlier in the summer.
Chilwell is unlikely to displace first-choice left-back Christian Fuchs, but could see more game time at the King Power Stadium as a result. This is a major boost for Claudio Ranieri as many expected major exoduses from Leicester but the defending champions have lost only N’Golo Kante to Chelsea so far.
News that Chilwell is close to signing a new contract, thought to be a five-year deal at Leicester City, will be a huge boost for both Ranieri and the club, but Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will be disappointed over missing out. Prior to that Arsenal tried to sign him even before Chilwell had appeared for the senior team.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Aston Villa’s Jordan Amavi this week by French publication Le Parisien, with the club having even reportedly met with the 22-year-old’s agent in June.
Klopp has Brad Smith as a current option, but is unlikely to be able to call upon Jon Flanagan – who was left out of tour to the U.S. amid speculation (in the Echo) he could accept a loan to Burnley.

If Chilwell signs a new contract with Leicester, he may be forced into action this summer.
