Va. leaders react to Clinton’s VP pick, Va. senator Kaine
In a text message to supporters, the presumptive Democratic nominee said, “I’m thrilled to tell you this first: I’ve chosen Sen”. Tim Kaine (D-VA) (L) share a moment during a campaign event at Ernst Community Cultural Center at Northern Virginia Community College July 14, 2016 in Annandale, Virginia.

Kaine is also expected to hold some appeal with a demographic Clinton now struggles with: white men. Tim Kaine of Virginia as her running mate.
Kaine is expected to join Clinton at a rally in Florida on Saturday.
Kaine was announced Friday as Clinton’s choice to be the Democratic vice presidential candidate. On Friday, Clinton called Kaine around 7:30 p.m., then spoke with President Barack Obama.
The 58-year-old senator swiftly tweeted his response, saying: “Just got off the phone with Hillary”.
While Clinton also considered other potential running mates, including Labor Secretary Tom Perez, New Jersey Sen.
The Clinton campaign selected Kaine over a roster of at least three other senators and two Cabinet secretaries to Obama. At stake, many critics of the choice indicate, are pressing issues-including reproductive rights, climate change, financial regulation, and corporate-friendly trade agreements-where Kaine holds positions far to the right of where they think the party, and the country, should be headed.
According to J Street’s endorsement, Kaine “is also supportive of an active role for the United States in achieving a two-state solution”. Elizabeth Warren or Ohio Sen.
His selection completes the lineup for the general election.
According to Ruth Conniff, editor-in-chief of The Progressive magazine speaking to MSNBC’s Chris Hayes when the news broke on Friday, the choice of Kaine will do nothing to excite people who voted for Bernie Sanders. After serving as a Richmond city councilmember and part-time mayor, Kaine became the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor when the presumed candidate dropped out following a cancer diagnosis.
Clinton, 68, acknowledged in an interview earlier this week that even Kaine admits he is boring, and said she did not mind. Eastern time from Tampa, where she had appeared at a rally, the official said.
Planned Parenthood also noted his 100% rating on their scorecard, calling him a “thoughtful running mate with integrity”.
“Ted, stay home”, Mr Trump said, dismissing any interest in an endorsement the Texas senator refuses to provide.
“I don’t do anything unless I win”, Mr Trump insisted.
Delegates were heading to Philadelphia for the convention starting Monday, with those who support Sanders indicating uncertainty about embracing a Clinton ticket. In 2005, he was elected governor, and in 2012, he won his Senate seat.
Before entering politics he was a lawyer who specialised in civil rights and fair housing.
And because the Virginia senator speaks fluent Spanish, Kaine could also draw in Latino voters. He has the respect of people from all political parties and more importantly, all walks of life.
His bipartisan roots, the Clinton campaign believes, could resonate with voters seeking an alternative to Trump. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012, and now serves on the Armed Services Committee, Foreign Relations Committee and Budget Committee.
The Trump campaign called Kaine “an ethically challenged insider” and called Clinton and Kaine a “Status Quo” ticket. Trump pledged to restore a sense of public safety, strictly curb immigration and save the nation from Clinton’s record of “death, destruction, terrorism and weakness”.
As Tennessee Democrats immediately praised Hillary Clinton’s selection of U.S. Sen. On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman in Milwaukee ruled that Wisconsin voters without photo identification can cast ballots by swearing to their identity.
