Stanton even advanced to the finals round of the 2016 Home Run Derby against the defending champion Todd Frazier, according to SB Nation Stanton showed that he had some steam left in him.

Giancarlo Staton proved with absolute certainty that he is the strongest slugger in Major League Baseball after hitting a Home Run Derby record 61 total home runs during the contest on Monday.
Stanton came out swinging in the second round, cranking out 17 home runs in regulation time, but he wasn’t able to add to it in the 30-second bonus round.
Stanton crunched 61 home runs in San Diego, shattering the single-night mark of 41 by Bobby Abreu in 2005, and doing so in a ballpark not known for being kind to hitters.
Giancarlo Stanton produced an awesome display of power hitting to win the Home Run Derby on Monday night – a performance that caused a sheepish Miami Marlins organization to renege on a ticket offer linked to his hitting heroics.
Stanton, who wasn’t selected for the All-Star team, was the No. 5 seed in the Derby after finishing the first half with 20 homers.
And by the way, in home runs that actually counted in games, Trumbo still leads Stanton, 28-20.

Stanton also hit the longest home run of the day, estimated at 497 feet, and ate without guilt into the brick facade of the Western Metal Supply Co. building in left field.
Stanton won the exhibition among eight hitters by beating the defending champion, White Sox 3B Todd Frazier, 20-13 in the final round. In the other semifinal, Frazier defeated Duvall 16-15. He walloped the top eight longest home runs on the evening, and almost touched 500 feet twice. Each player gets four minutes to take as many swings as possible, and Duvall still had 90 seconds on the clock when he hit his 11th home run to pass Myers.
Despite Petco Park’s reputation as a pitcher-friendly ballpark, Padres All-Star first baseman Wil Myers predicted a power-packed night.

Beau Myers even hit his brother with a pitch early in the four-minute period, and almost nicked him another time.
