At last, a Wimbledon triumph for Murray to savour

Andy Murray has set his sights on becoming world number one but accepts it will be hard to usurp Novak Djokovic. “I just spent time with my friends and my family and then we’ll go out for dinner tonight as well”. But I’m going to speak to him (Leon) this afternoon.

The Scot has now won three Grand Slams and is now set to target Novak Djokovic in pursuit of the No. 1 world ranking. “From his perspective if Andy has a successful run in the next few weeks he’s got a great chance of closing that gap on Djokovic to give himself an opportunity over the next year to become the world No 1”.

“I think the last three months, since Monte-Carlo, have been some of the best I’ve played in terms of consistency”.

In a Facebook question-and-answer session, the world number two was asked whether he meant to embarrass the PM.

His hero Andre Agassi won Olympic gold and eight Grand Slam singles titles, including five from 29 – the same age as Murray now.

“It’s possible”, Murray told the BBC. “There’s nothing I want more than to be back here”.

“I’ve had some great moments here and some tough losses”.

“I know that he will come back strong because of the player he is”. I’m going to try to improve my return game, improve my serve.

“I think he’s definitely put an emphasis on it”, Raonic said”.

As he won in straight sets over Canadian Milos Raonic, the Centre Court crowd rattled the rafters with a roar of appreciation for their hero, standing together to cheer and applaud his brilliance.

Djokovic beat Murray in the Australian and French Open finals to complete a career Grand Slam – and could yet break Federer’s record of 17 major titles.

With Djokovic’s phenomenal winning streak coming to an end as wells as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal being well off their peak performance, some believe this victory might herald a reshuffle within the so called “Big Four” tennis stars in which Murray can claim a bigger piece of the tennis pie.

‘To do it twice here, an event where there is a lot of pressure on me to perform well, I am very proud with how I have handled that over the years’. “It was a long time before I started feeling good again but I don’t see that being an issue this time”.
