The Cincinnati Reds’ “Big Red Machine” had five players named to the starting roster and seven in the game overall as the National League pummeled the American League 7-1.

The previous low was past year when the when the ASG pulled a 6.6 rating and 10.9 million viewers.

National League bats went silent once again this year. “It is such a huge advantage to have home field advantage”.

In the four innings Bryant played, which included hitting a home run, he wore three different colors of an adidas baseball cleat.

“It’s extremely humbling”, Hosmer said.

The Giants’ Johnny Cueto’s All-Star game start was a Royal disappointment. “So that was a cool moment, I thought”.

Having home field advantage matters, but not to an absurd degree.

“Pops could use a new truck”, Hosmer said in making his choice.

However, playing Game 1 at home puts a team in a more advantageous position than playing Game 1 on the road.

Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano played just three innings. So it was up to Jon Lester to represent the Cubs on the mound.

Cueto left a 1-1 pitch up in the zone and Perez deposited it into the seats and just like that, the game was 3-1. “It was still fun”. Two batters later, Perez connected for a two-run shot off Cueto. Yankees lefty Andrew Miller found some trouble in the eighth inning, loading the bases with two outs. Bryant ambushed a first-pitch, 96 miles per hour fastball, crushing it off the facing of the upper deck in left field for a homer. A team actually has to win that first game before there’s a true advantage. Hosmer bashed an opposite-field solo homer to tie the score.

“It hasn’t been until recently that I stopped living and dying with every at-bat”, Mike Hosmer said. “I’m just glad I got in there”. Considered the favorite to potentially start the All-Star game, Arrieta said that he rather not pitch after Terry Collins chose to start Johnny Cueto.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Corey Kluber notched the win with a flawless second inning. He added an RBI single in the third inning.

The National League was able to get a run back in the fourth inning against Blue Jays pitcher Aaron Sanchez.

Ortiz wore spikes with gold-colored bottoms and matching batting gloves to mark his 10th All-Star selection and delivered the AL batting order to umpires at home plate.

David Ortiz had a walk and a line-drive out in what’s expected to be the final All-Star Game for the Boston slugger, who plans to retire this fall.

Fernandez admitted, “I couldn’t believe that I was actually pitching to him”.

“That was planned ahead of time”, Yost said. “Now I can give that one back”. You don’t know how the whole game is going to be approached. “I wanted to go out there and pitch and do the best I could”.
