“OPD Honor Guard in #Dallas at the funeral of DART Officer Brent Thompson”.
Thousands of mourners attended services Wednesday for three of the five police officers killed last week by a gunman in Dallas.
As Thompson’s funeral procession began the roughly 55-mile (89 km) journey back to his home of Corsicana, several police helicopters flew over the church as bagpipers played “Amazing Grace” and hundred of officers from different departments saluted his silver-colored casket.
Lt. Ruben Diaz says all of the funerals they serve hold equal importance, but to lose so many officers at once does make this assignment a little different.
Thursday’s funeral took place at the Watermark Church in Dallas.
He was remembered during a service at the Potter’s House in Dallas at 11 p.m. ET.
TPD plans to send Honor Guard members to express that same support at the funerals for Sgt. Michael Smith, Officer. He was married, and his wife Emily is also a police officer.
A funeral service was held today at noon ET at The Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Smith was an Army veteran who had been on the Dallas police force 28 years. We hope this helps them to deliver the message of Honor, Sorrow, and Support, as our brothers and sisters of the Dallas Police Department and D.A.R.T. mourn the loss of their friends and family.
Thompson’s death marked the first killing of a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer since its inception in 1989.
The 48-year-old Ahrens worked with the Los Angeles County sheriff’s department and was a semipro football player before moving to Texas and joining the Dallas police force.
“Don’t blame all police officers”. “You know your hate made us stronger”, she said, according to ABC News.
Dallas police say the officer is stable at Parkland Memorial Hospital.
Siouxland was represented by two Sioux City officers, as well as a pair of Woodbury County deputies, and one representing Plymouth County.
