The Sun understands that Klopp remains a keen admirer of the 20-year-old playmaker, who scored five goals and assisted six more in the league last season.
The 30-cap Netherlands global is an extremely versatile player, and this will have interested Klopp this summer.
The Reds are also benefiting from Klopp’s work in the transfer market with Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, Marko Grujic and Sadio Mane all having been added to the group, while Georginio Wijnaldum will link up with his new club soon.
“When I started playing football at the age of seven, I always wanted to play in front of big crowds”, he told the Liverpool Echo.
“I know Klopp a bit and I briefly spoke with him the other day”.
He also said: “I wasn’t surprised when it was like this when we met for the first time”.
Klopp continued: “And to play in our team, you need to play at the highest level – that’s the case for all of them”.
“(But) I always love to watch him, his passion as a trainer, I like how he enjoys the game. “He has already shown some really good moments in his career but the most exciting and important thing for me and my staff is that there is still so much extra to come from him”.
And the Liverpool boss reacted: “I really like following the journey of these guys, especially the special players and he’s a special player”.

“He can play a few positions for us and players that come through the Dutch system usually have a good tactical understanding and flexibility”.
