The Pirates say Glasnow is expected to start Saturday afternoon’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park.
Jaso twice advanced to second base, but no baserunner reached third against Eflin, who has allowed 11 earned runs over his past seven outings since being tagged for nine in his major-league debut June 14.
Glasnow, one of the Pirates’ top prospects, gave up two runs on four hits in 3-plus innings.
It was the Phillies’ turn in the second. Joseph also hit an RBI single. Incidentally, Eflin hit the Pirates’ No. 3 hitter, McCutchen, in the bottom of the first, drawing a warning to both benches from home plate umpire Tony Randazzo.
When Glasnow left, the score was tied 2-2 and the Phillies had runners on first and second with none out, but Nicasio escaped the jam unscathed.
Phillies: 3B Maikel Franco (sore left wrist) sat out after being hit by a pitch in the first inning of Friday night’s 4-0 win. Prior to shutting down the Marlins, Nola allowed a combined 30 runs in five starts while failing to get past the fourth inning four times.
To make room for Glasnow on the active roster, the Pirates optioned right-handed pitcher A.J. Schugel to Indianapolis.
NOTES: RHP Tyler Glasnow was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and made his second major-league start for the Pirates.
