Dallas gunman taunted police

The police officers shot were escorting protestors, mostly blacks, who were protesting the two shootings by police.

Police in Baton Rouge late Saturday arrested DeRay McKesson, one of the most visible faces of the Black Lives Matter movement, during a protest over the recent fatal shootings of black men, the latest round of highly publicized and video-recorded deaths at the hands of law enforcement.

“What he was doing was righteous and he was going to target law enforcement, make us pay for what he sees as law enforcement’s effort to punish people of color”, Brown said.

During the standoff, Johnson taunted officers by singing, laughing and asking how many cops he had shot, Brown said.

Brown said it wasn’t clear what Johnson had been trying to write but that investigators are trying to figure it out. The 25-year-old suspect was killed on the second floor of the El Centro community college by a bomb delivered by remote-controlled robot, after several hours of fruitless negotiations with authorities by telephone. Seven other officers and two civilians were wounded.

Thursday’s protest over the deadly police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota began at a city park.

“First of all, as painful as this week has been, I firmly believe that America is not as divided as some have suggested”, Obama said. “I’d do it again”.

Bomb-making material, rifles and a combat journal were found at the home of Johnson, who was himself killed.

As protests against the shootings of two black men by police officers shut down main arteries in a number of U.S. cities last night, police have revealed that the shooter in the Dallas ambush had been practising detonating bombs and planned some kind of major attack.

“Me and my family have received death threats nearly immediately after the shooting”, Brown said.

The police department also asked media not to broadcast live near the headquarters for the safety of officers.

Johnson was a private in the army reserve and had served in Afghanistan. An autopsy will confirm exactly how many times he was hit, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said. They say he “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers”.

Unable to reach a resolution, officers armed a robot with about a pound of C-4 explosive to end the standoff.

When his officers proposed using the robot, Brown said, “I approved it”.
