“We only have one person at the top of the ticket, and that’s Donald Trump”.

“I’m not going to get into criticizing or attacking Donald Trump, but I’ll give you this response: I am not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father”, Cruz said, adding that those attacks had negated his pledge to back the eventual GOP nominee.

Then the crescendo from the floor grew loud and angry.

It’s exactly how I felt at church when I was growing up, but at least at church, there is a dead guy hanging from a cross above the priest to keep things lively. According to Roe, it happened at about 6:30 p.m. – just over three hours before Cruz was scheduled to take the stage.

Vander Plaats said he is in the same place where he plans to vote for Trump but not necessarily endorse him publicly.

Wisconsin delegates at the Republican National Convention said Thursday they are disappointed that Texas Sen.

Ivanka was the family member to introduce the billionaire businessman as he launched his presidential bid from Trump Tower in Manhattan. Kerfuffle avoided. It seemed as if Rubio were setting the stage for Cruz to do the same, but alas …

There were intense protests outside Quicken Loans Arena, and protest of a different sort inside – boos for Donald Trump’s former presidential rival Ted Cruz.

That flub aside, the Trump family has emerged as a major strength during the convention.

But then it got worse, and Pence never batted an eye as Trump explained why the story might be true: “Now, Ted never denied that it was his father”.

The same can be said about Trump’s wife, Melania. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. When they talk about unity, I want to tell you, that was unity.

How distressing that a major blunder by her speechwriter detracted from her effort.

Trump hit the usual talking points that have been touchstones of his campaign over the past year, condemning illegal immigration, calling for more protection of law enforcement officials and touting his business acumen as a skill that has prepared him to improve the economy.

Many of Trump’s most memorable lines were attacks on Hillary Clinton, whom he accused of sowing “death, terrorism and weakness”.

“This is was probably one of the most peaceful, one of the most attractive, one of the most loved-filled conventions in the history of conventions”, Trump said at a hastily called appreciation event for volunteers in Cleveland. Their emergence is one of the unqualified successes of this turbulent, uneven convention.

National Committee chairman Reince Priebus also spoke to the Republican throng, noting differences between the parties, saying Republicans want to put power back in the hands of parents regarding education, and patients for health care. He says don’t worry, you’ll do a great job.
