Chief Terry Zeigler said when he finished it, Melton told him to “put it on the shelf, and hopefully we’ll never have to use it again”.

Lewis was also charged with aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a weapon at an unoccupied dwelling in connection with shots fired at the apartment building, Gorman said. “I said we’ll give them time”. “Rest now, brother. We’ll take it from here”.
The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Children’s Mercy Park, home of Sporting KC, 1 Sporting Way, Kansas City, Kan.
The department is still aching from a similar funeral two months back, but today said goodbye and thank you to another. Military veterans also lined the street holding American flags.
“You will see he was a true hero”, said Zeigler, who struggled to make it through his tribute to Melton. “He was on the front lines fighting terrorism to keep our nation safe”. A 20-year-old man, Jamaal Lewis, is charged with capital murder.
Melton was alone searching for a shooting suspect in that earlier gunfire when he drove up to a person who matched a description of someone possibly involved.
The site notes that under Kansas law, a conviction of capital murder carries only two possible sentences: life in prison with no chance of parole or the death penalty.

Melton leaves behind three children, and was expecting a fourth child with his girlfriend. He had also served in the Kansas Army National Guard and was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan before he retired in 2012, according to the guard.
