The attack happened on the Wekiva River near Wekiva Island, where businesses rent out canoes about 15 miles northwest of Orlando.

A woman reportedly had most of her arm ripped off by an eight-foot alligator as she swam at a popular Florida tourist spot.
A woman swimming in the Wekiva River on Saturday was attacked by an alligator that bit her arm off just above the elbow, officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.
He and his friends already had seen a few alligators mostly resting near the river’s banks, he said.
Trappers have been called to the scene for what is believed to be a large alligator.
An FWC officer said the business around the river won’t close, but they will encourage swimmers to swim the opposite way from where the incident happened.
Witnesses told the Orlando Sentinel that her limb was severed just below the shoulder. “We saw a lot of stuff turning in the water”, said Payne.

A worker said, an alligator hasn’t attacked anyone swimming near the attraction in 6 years. Dispatch reports said that a person’s arm was bitten, though Parker said she did not know the severity of the injury.
