The news arrived as Joel Hodgson and company were starting up their Comic Con panel, announced as a powerfully understanding tweet from the streaming service.
There’s still no word on exactly when the new episodes will be released, but until then I recommend dialing up the Gamera episode of the original series, and then blocking out plenty of free time in your schedule. In fact, the kickstarter set the world record as the highest-funded film and TV crowdfunding campaign in history. New episodes will feature a new host, Mads (aka “mad scientist”) and new movies to riff. The show took place on the Satellite of Love where a human host was trapped by mad scientists.
What we REALLY don’t get is the contradicting information within the EW article that broke this news: it confirms that the Bots will have all new actors behind them (comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn), but then it says Bill Corbett is returning as Crow. Community’s Joel McHale and showrunner Dan Harmon are also attached as writers. And he, Mary Jo Pehl, and Kevin Murphy will make guest appearances as Brain Guy, Pearl Forrester, and Professor Bobo.
The new MST3K season is executive-produced by Joel Hodgson, Richard Foos, Bob Emmer, Garson Foos, Jonathan Stern, Harold Buchholz, and Elliott Kalan.

MST3K premiered in 1988 on a local station in Minnesota before going on to air on Comedy Central for six seasons, concluding in 1997. The premise of the show is that two mad scientists have sent a hapless worker – originally played by Hodgson – into outer space, where he is forced to watch awful movies and riff on them alongside his robot companions as part of a nefarious experiment.
