Youth Arrested From Parbhani for Suspected ISIS Links

Police officers said the arrested identified as Rizwan Khan was nabbed from his residence at Kalyan in Thane.

The arrest was in connection with a case registered in Kochi, for allegedly radicalising a Kochi-based woman.

According to the report, he was produced before magistrate’s court in the Central Business District of Belapur, Navi Mumbai, on Thursday and remanded in transit custody for four days. Khan, however, was not linked with the IRF, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni of the Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad. Officials in the security establishment stated that the arrested accused, along with two other organizations apart from the IRF, were working to carry out conversions on a very large scale. The move comes a day after the Maharashtra ATS along with the Kerala police picked up Arshad Qureshi who allegedly belongs to the IRF.

“As per the statement, Qureshi insisted that Ebin should embrace Islam and join IS”. Kulkarni said the arrest was recorded by the Kerala police and the ATS was giving the team logistical support. The case registered by the Kerala Police in connection with the disappearance of 21 youths who are suspected to have fled the state and joined ISIS.

He is expected to be handed over to the Kerala ATS soon.

Naik, a city-based televangelist who also runs Peace TV, has been under the scanner of various agencies after one of the attackers involved in the Dhaka terror strike posted that he had been influenced by the preacher. “Ebin has also alleged that Yahya accompanied him to Mumbai to meet Qureshi and claimed that Qureshi was associated with IRF”.
