Kyle Busch wins NASACAR Xfinity Series race at Indy – again

“And then the doctors really took over and then we texted back and forth – and then I got to see him face to face”.

Nobody has been hotter than Busch this weekend. He had the fastest lap after two practice rounds Friday despite being sent into a spin after a brush with Patrick Carpentier.

“(The media) are going to make a lot more out of this than what I’m going to”, Stewart said of Sunday’s Brickyard 400. That’s 165 in all, a winning rate of 19.1 percent, and of course over the past two years here the only thing he hasn’t done right is qualify ninth for last year’s Sprint Cup race.

Busch only surrendered the lead once – when he pitted after 27 laps – and retook the lead when Brendan Gaughan made his pit stop.

“I just wish we could do Lap 3 one more time and could have kept it off the apron in turn four”, he said. I think between Jeff agreeing to drive the auto and Junior walking in the shop, the team is really excited.

But concussion-like symptoms have forced Dale Earnhardt Jr. out of the No. 88 Chevrolet and simultaneously pressed Gordon into unexpected service. His fast lap of 185.616 came in the first round.

“For me”, explained Gordon, “my goal is to come here and give this team the best effort that I can and get them the best result, hopefully a good one”. “All I care about is driving that race vehicle right now”.

Josh Wise failed to qualify.

But if NASCAR’s most popular driver misses more time, Gordon appears to be ready and willing to keep racing. He also said he hadn’t heard that Gordon had been considered to drive for him in the season-opening Daytona 500 while Stewart recovered from his back injury, as Gordon revealed Friday.

None of the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets made it out of the second round.

Torrence tops qualifying in Colorado: MORRISON, Colo. Chase Elliott will start 15th. This is his third victory and fourth top-10 finish in five NXS races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS). But he managed the vehicle out of the wall and still reached the top of the speed chart.

The Joe Gibbs Racing star held off two former Brickyard 400 winners and one, Harvick, couldn’t even catch the leader after taking new tires during the final caution period, which extended the race to 63 laps. Brad Keselowski is starting fifth.

IndyStar insider Curt Cavin discusses Kyle Busch’s win in the Lilly Diabetes 250 Xfinity race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway July 23, 2016. Stewart is going for his second victory of the season, his third at Indy and the 50th of his career.

Nico Rosberg of Mercedes will start from pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull.

Qualifying was hampered by heavy rainfall, which delayed the start by 20 minutes and also led to several interruptions and crashes, including by Felipe Massa of Williams and Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson. He beat Tom Kimber-Smith by 0.815 seconds on the 1.474-mile circuit.
