Cruz meets with angry Texas delegates after convention speech
Another sign of North Carolina’s must-win status for Republicans: Trump’s son and daughter-in-law were dispatched Thursday morning to meet with the state’s delegation to the Republican National Convention. “The irresponsible rhetoric of our president, who has used the pulpit of the presidency to divide us by race and color, has made America a more risky environment for everyone”.

The property billionaire highlighted recent instances of civil unrest in the USA, and the shootings of police officers, and confidently predicted that “safety would be restored” when he became president. “The most basic duty of government is to defend the lives of its own citizens”.
“As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time when women weren’t a significant portion of the workplace, and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all”, Ivanka Trump said.
“Not only have our citizens endured domestic disaster, but they have lived through one global humiliation after another”.
“Hillary Clinton’s legacy does not have to be America’s legacy”, he will say according to excerpts released by the campaign.
The brash billionaire, obviously not using prepared remarks, even floated a conspiracy theory that suggested Cruz’s father played a role in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
He told the Texan delegation that he had no intention of going so far as to vote for Hillary Clinton in November.
“She is showing the softer side” of Trump, said Chris Herrod, state director for Ted Cruz in Utah. “Keep your pledge!” “Go home!” – and, after Cruz switched from his plea for voters to show up to the polls and vote in all the other races on the ticket, the boos drowned out the final moments of his speech.
“It’s about time I said that”.
“If he gives it, I will not accept it!”
“I am your voice”.
“I assume the reason they wanted me to speak is they believed my delivering that message would encourage people to come out and vote, and they believed it would help”.
“I am doing what millions of Americans are doing”.
The refrain of this year’s Republican convention hasn’t been “Make America Great Again”.
The delegates responded with angry boos, and Cruz backer and former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli escorted Heidi Cruz off the convention floor as she was heckled by Trump delegates.
From CNN: Peter Thiel encouraged the GOP to not get distracted by culture wars on stage Thursday night, saluting Donald Trump for not focusing on such things as he made history.

Eric Trump, the candidate’s son, called Cruz’s speech “classless”.
