The Chinese authorities have said they will provide funds for flood-hit areas.
Most of the fatalities were reported in the northern province of Hebei.
An additional 78 people are missing following the storms in Hebei province, the local Civil Affairs Department said.
Citing provincial civil affairs bureau, Xinhua news agency reported that local authorities have evacuated almost 310,000 people. Over 700,000 hectares of crops have also been destroyed, leading to direct economic losses of over 16 billion yuan (2.4 billion USA dollars).
The Hebei provincial government said on its official microblog account that it was suspending the head of a development zone in the city of Xingtai, the chief engineer of a city transport bureau and two other bureaucrats. “We want the government to tell us the truth, including the death toll in our village”, Zhang said.
Locals in Xingtai said officials didn’t give adequate warning and that evacuation efforts lagged.
Flood waters burst river banks and submerged at least 12 villages. Already, 576 people have been recorded as dead or missing nationwide in the first half of the year.
Jingxing County, located in the west of the province, saw an average precipitation of 545.4 mm in the 19 hours between 1 p.m. on Tuesday and 8 a.m. on Wednesday, surpassing the amount received by the county in the whole of 2015.
In the village of Renma, villager Ren Jingmin was clearing his home.

The raging water of the floods are said to have gushed over the river banks submerging nearly 12 villages.
The officials were suspended for “being ineffective in flood prevention and rescue and relief work”.
