Sidney Crosby’s return to his hometown of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Friday was a special one.

Crosby and the Penguins won the franchise’s fourth Stanley Cup last month, beating San Jose in six games. “I had never seen it before, it was awesome”.

The coffee shop, visited frequently by Crosby as a kid, is on Forest Hills Parkway, which will be shut down Saturday to allow the Pittsburgh Penguins captain to parade the Cup.

The Stanley Cup visited Cary, North Carolina, home of Jeff Zatkoff who served as the Penguins backup goalie during the team’s run to the championship, and while the storied trophy was there it got to experience the thrill of a lifetime: a ride down a water slide.

“It’s important to come back here because this is a place that had such a great influence for me growing up, and for so many people”, Crosby said. Crosby also took along the Conn Smythe trophy, the award given to the Finals MVP.

“He came behind the counter and … made sure all the staff got pictures with him”, said MacFarlane.

“He’s a gentleman; he’s awesome”, said MacFarlane.

And while Crosby can be very cavalier about his trip, the man in the photo below says otherwise.

It’s not the first time Crosby brought professional hockey’s most prestigious trophy to his home province.

The fans in attendance Saturday did the same, with many holding up signs and some showing off homemade versions of the Stanley Cup, cheering and chanting “Sidney, Sidney” as their hometown hockey hero took the stage and kissed his sparkling trophy.
