Foster injured at Texans’ camp

Just hours after news broke that Jadeveon Clowney’s father had been arrested on attempted murder charges, reports emerged that veteran running back and offensive leader Arian Foster will most likely need surgery for a groin injury he sustained during training camp practice earlier this week.

Foster, 28, has missed 11 games over the past two seasons due to injuries and has dealt with groin issues in the past. The injury could require surgery and make Foster a candidate for injured reserve with designation to return, according to ESPN 97.5 in Houston. Foster will be operated on a sports-hernia on Friday so he can begin a rehab process.

“He’s going to miss some time, there’s no doubt about that”, head coach Bill O’Brien said.

O’Brien is also impressed with third-year back Jonathan Grimes.

“As I stand here right now I have not talked to (Texans general manager Rick Smith) yet, but I don’t believe we have signed anybody”, O’Brien said when addressing the media Wednesday.

“I would say it helps a lot”, he said.

Rice was a tremendous weapon for the Ravens, not only in the run game, but in the passing game as well and there’s no question that the Texans could use his on-the-field talents.

It may not have been money that kept Thomas from signing on in Houston though, as Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN is reporting that Chris Polk may be in line for the top spot on the Texans running back depth chart. Blue started three games as a rookie in 2014 and put up 528 yards and two touchdowns.

There’s some possible bad news swirling around for Houston Texans fans and anyone who was planning on picking a running back in the first or second round of their fantasy draft. It’s part of the game. He was also used often as a goal-line back late last season, so the potential for touchdowns increases his value.

Levy had a career-high 151 tackles (117 solo) last season and is entering his seventh season with Detroit.

The problem with Houston’s predicament is that it happened too close to opening day and most of the quality free agent running back that may fill in for Foster are already settled with their respective teams.
