A spokeswoman for the Trump campaign said the GOP presidential nominee did not agree with Baldasaro’s comments.

Jennifer Horn, chair of the state Republican Party, quickly denounced Baldasaro’s comments, calling them “appalling”.

Baldasaro did not immediately return a request from ABC News for comment.

In an interview with MSNBC on the floor of the Republican National Convention, Al Baldasaro, co-chair of Trump’s veterans group and a New Hampshire delegate and legislator, repeated that he thought Clinton should be tried for treason, but said there would have to be a trial to determine what her punishment would be.

“Donald Trump’s overtaking of the Republican Party and his constant escalation of outrageous rhetoric is in danger of mainstreaming the kind of hatred that has always been relegated to the fringes of American politics where it belongs”, Jennifer Palmieri said.

Baldasaro has been an informal advisor to Trump on veterans affairs.

Baldasaro, who also picked on the media for the biased way of depicting Trump, had been a Trump supporter ever since before the businessman-turned-politician’s participation in the state’s primary earlier this year.

“This week at the Republican convention, we’ve seen the clearest embodiment yet of this unsafe phenomenon”, Palmieri added.

Arkansas Senator, Tom Cotton, while talking to CNN on Wednesday objected to Baldasaro’s comments.

“I spoke with some people and there’s not going to be an investigation”, Baldasaro said.

“Freedom of speech is a handsome thing”.

A report filed with the Federal Election Commission revealed that Trump raised almost $27 million in June compared to just over $3 million in May. “I’m calling on (state Republican Party Chair Jennifer Horn) to repudiate his risky and divisive remarks and to publicly ask for his resignation”.
