Chuck, Amy Schumer call for gun control changes
No more than a few days later, Schumer stood alongside her cousin and New York Senator Charles Schumer for a call for stricter gun control. The comedian was emotional as she explained she is channeling her anger over the shooting into helping her cousin push for new legislation that would make it harder for violent criminals and the mentally ill to obtain guns.

For Amy Schumer, the subject of gun violence and mass shootings became “extremely personal” last month, when John Russell Houser opened fire in a movie theater in Lafayette during a screening of her film “Trainwreck”, killing two people and injuring nine others.
“We’re right here to say sufficient is sufficient”, the senator stated in a press convention together with his well-known cousin in New York on Monday.
First, according to his office, the senator has proposed new legislation that will reward states who “submit all necessary records into the background check system” and penalize states who don’t. They want to encourage states to share more information with the federal background check system; figure out the best way to handle getting people suffering from mental illness involuntarily committed to psychiatric care; and give more money to treatment programs for mental illness and substance abuse.
The difficulty of gun violence turned “extraordinarily private” for Amy Schumer, the comic stated, on July 23. “We will not simply sit again and permit mass shootings to grow to be commonplace…”
“My heart is broken and all my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Louisiana“, she tweeted the night of the shooting. For starters, here’s what you should know: Amy Schumer loves Jennifer Lawrence.
She added, “These are my first public comments on the issue of gun violence, but I can promise you they won’t be my last”.
“The critics scoff and say, ‘Well, there’s no way to stop insane people from doing insane things, ‘ but they’re wrong”, she said.

“Unless something is done and done soon, risky people will continue to get their hands on guns”, Schumer told reporters. Schumer responded to the request and ensured her fans that she’s “on it”.
