Thousands hit Philadelphia’s steamy streets to protest DNC
It was unclear whether Wasserman Schultz would have a speaking role at the convention.

If the state party’s encampment offered a venue for unification, Bernal was resisting.
Hacked emails threatened to overshadow the Democratic Party’s upcoming celebration in Philadelphia as progressives expressed disappointment Sunday over the presidential nomination process and Bernie Sanders stepped up demands that the party’s chairwoman step down.
For most of the GOP primary, this line of attack was focused on Trump’s comments about Mexicans and Muslims, as well as his support among white nationalists. Or should he fight through the convention and “force a roll-call vote for the nomination”, re-opening “a divisive critique of Clinton” and casting the party’s controversial superdelegate system in a negative light?
I’m not sure everyone is ready to jump on board.
“It’s going to be hard”, said Maria Patterson, vice chair of the San Joaquin County Democratic Party.
Said Singer: “As people start to recognize the vast lineup of shared values” they hold, “I think people will come together” to work for Clinton’s election.
Patterson, a Clinton delegate, said she expects Sanders supporters will gradually move to Clinton after the Vermont senator addresses the convention on Monday night.
“It was concerning last week that Donald Trump changed the Republican platform to become what some experts would regard as pro-Russian”, Mook said.
The former MA state treasurer served as head of the Democratic National Committee from 1997 to 1999, helping navigate through the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal.
Still, Sanders and his supporters would have been a lot happier if Clinton had chosen Sen.
Following her primary victory, Clinton enjoyed a boost, with her image rating in California ticking up 6 percentage points. That’s also when Sanders will give his speech a closely watched moment for signs of whether his loyal supporters will line up behind Clinton, as he’s asked them to do.
“Voters are actually starting to feel a little better about Clinton”, said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll.
A trove of messages released by hackers on the website Wikileaks apparently shows party officials working to boost Hillary Clinton’s candidacy during the primary. That makes clear that DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will not act in that capacity; under party rules, the DNC head acts as temporary chair until a new one is voted in. “Secretary Clinton is going to be that hand and I look forward to making that case for her”.
The Republican nominee, Donald Trump, said on Twitter: “Leaked e-mails of DNC show plans to destroy Bernie Sanders”. “This was a slap in the face to progressives, and it is clearly catering to the right”.
The Clinton campaign hopes the moderate senator from Virginia can reach out to other groups up for grabs, including swing-state Southerners, suburban women and Catholics – the voter group that has backed the victor in eight of the 10 USA presidential elections since 1972. She said her most important cause is getting corporate money out of politics.
Several marches and rallies were hitting the streets Sunday, including a march for clean energy and one supporting Bernie Sanders. “I’m doing everything I can”. “In fact, you could say it’s an expansion”.
Clinton arrives in Philadelphia with 2,814 delegates to Sanders’ 1,893, according to an Associated Press count. After the Republican fire-and-brimstone will come a more hopeful vision of inclusion, not exclusion, of optimism, not doom-saying. Sanders had called earlier Sunday for her departure.
The Louisiana delegation is staying at the Doubletree Hotel, 10-minute walk from Independence Hall, with SC and Pennsylvania representatives, said New Orleans Sen.

The attendance plans of the Louisiana’s two leading Democrats – Gov. John Bel Edwards and Congressman Cedric Richmond, of New Orleans – are still kind of loose, largely because of the aftermath of the police shooting of Alton Sterling followed by the ambush murder of two police offices and a sheriff’s deputy in Baton Rouge.
