Oklahoma Republicans say Trump needs to outline his vision

It also says something about Trump’s judgment that he invited a politician whom he’d cruelly attacked to speak at the convention – in a prime-time spot.

Thus, while Trump may have put himself more at the front and center at the Republican convention than previous nominees, a presidential candidate’s dominating convention proceedings itself is not new.

Candidate Trump was unequivocal when he assured the delegates, alternate delegates, guests and a national television audience that safety was his primary concern. The festive area outside the Quicken Loans Arena was set with outdoor bars and plenty of rhythm and blues music. “It is ridiculous”, he said, referring to chants that broke out repeatedly at last week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Not supporting Trump earned Cruz plenty of boos from the convention floor.

“I don’t want his endorsement”, Trump said Friday. Indeed, in some ways the delegates at this convention seem to have gone beyond even Mr Trump on politically extreme rhetoric.

The line was a reference to the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, where a gunman claiming allegiance to ISIS killed 49 people. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell called Trump’s comments “a rookie mistake”, drawing a response from Trump. He’ll speak at the convention in a pre-recorded video promoting the night’s theme “Make America First Again”.

Critics said North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members are paying their fair share, and that Trump’s position would lead to a break-up of the U.S.-European alliance. He noted that a wave of undocumented workers hurts recent immigrants who moved to the United States legally, as well as African Americans, by taking away jobs. “I feel so badly”, Trump chided Friday, after disavowing any responsibility for the personal nature of the campaign.

But Suarez said Trump’s focus on violence committed by immigrants was a disappointment. Most notably, Trump suggested that the USA wouldn’t defend North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies against Russian aggression.

Trump said his campaign had approved the speech.

He acknowledged that the border and public safety should be protected. He further declared to build “a great wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop gangs and the violence…” “I’m not sure (the) speech will be viewed as building bridges to the Latino and immigrant community”.

“People that want to pick on Donald Trump and Mike Pence – I do take that personally”, said Sessions, who was close to Pence when he served in Congress. “I do take it personally that they are making themselves the issues rather than purity, rather than the good of the whole”. Citing the rise in murder rates in Washington and Chicago, Trump promised to restore law and order once he took charge as president.

Trump also provided a lengthy defense of his injection of Cruz’s wife, Heidi, and father, Rafael, into the primaries this year, retweeting an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz and giving voice to a conspiracy theory that Rafael Cruz was involved in the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy. Ted Cruz is a Christian conservative who opposes Donald Trump for being too liberal and he is the one who’s stood up and made a big stink at Mr Trump’s coronation party. Trump and his surrogates warned that the humiliations and lawlessness of President Obama’s years in office would be continued and amplified by Clinton’s election, bringing the nation to the brink of chaos.

The Republican runner-up, Texas Sen.

Cruz was booed off the convention stage on Wednesday when he never endorsed Trump in his speech and said instead folks should “vote their conscience”.

In another part of town, Cruz defended his decision during a Texas delegation at a breakfast.

Vincent said question of unity is overblown. Although the Texas senator had not been expected to offer an effusive endorsement of his primary foe, many GOP delegates had hoped and expected to hear some expression of support as they struggle to unite their party to defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton this fall.
