Ivanka Trump Takes to RNC Stage Wearing $138 Dress She Designed
She asserted that he had more female executives than male at his companies and that women are paid equally as their male counterparts at his firms. She pledged that Trump will change labor laws that that discriminate against women-particularly working mothers-and will make child care affordable and accessible for all. A far better approach would be to focus on helping working parents themselves, such as by expanding the child tax credit, so they can afford whatever childcare option they choose, including keeping a parent at home or relying on another family member, such as a grandparent, to help out during working hours.

Ivanka had the privilege of introducing her father, whom she called “the people’s nominee” prior to his speech. Shortly before her speech his campaign chairman Paul Manafort drew scorn when he said that Donald Trump could appeal to women feeling economic insecurity because “their husbands can’t afford to be paying for the family bills”.
Tellingly, Ivanka’s comments about working mothers were about that only – mothers. She was so much more compelling, balanced, and substantive than her dad.
In a twist you can already see coming, Ivanka stood on stage suggesting that her father will turn around the American economy while wearing a dress that isn’t doing too much to help the American economy.
“Policies that allow women with children to thrive should not be novelties, they should be the norm”, Ivanka insisted to a cheering audience.
It’s not just abortion that Republicans find unsafe, though: According to the document, certain over-the-counter contraceptives (not named by the platform) are also a threat to women’s health.

But that may have exposed some uncomfortable Trump clan hypocrisies.
Trump cited statistics indicating that the biggest driver of pay inequity was not gender but motherhood. For more information on their marriage, Kushner’s business dealings and their children, click through our gallery of their best photos together.
Trotting out a wife or daughter to speak to “women’s issues” is sadly standard political fare, and certainly not a Trump invention. The dress was a smart promotional business decision, and it made her seem all the more relatable. We are distinct from children, despite the pervasive “women and children” rhetorical combo and the lesser social position it implies.

Last July, he hinted on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” that he opposes adjusting women’s pay in order to achieve equal pay. At a speech in March, he displayed a table full of Trump Winery beverages (the vineyard is run by his son Eric), Trump-branded water and magazines, and steaks that he suggested were from his Trump Steak brand even though that was discontinued years ago.
