Bowie advances to Olympics in 200 meters

Tori Bowie won the women’s 200-meter final in 22.25 during the United States Olympic track and field team trials on Sunday, adding that honor to the 100-meter title she won earlier in the week.

The world 400 meters champion had hoped to become only the third woman to win both the 200 and 400 meters at the same Olympics, and athletics’ governing body had even changed the Rio schedule to make it more feasible. So while the Hernando native finished tied for sixth in the final of the Olympic Trials, he will still be in Rio with victor Erik Kynard and third place finisher Bradley Adkins. Lagat is 41 years old, but you wouldn’t guess that from his blistering finish.

The injury happened when she landed awkwardly on an exercise ball while doing core work and rolled her right ankle. Huddle and Conley finished second and third in the 5,000-meter final at the 2012 trials.

“I don’t know what happened”, Prandini, who finished in 22.53 seconds, said in an AP report. It’s a long journey, but we got the job done.

The additions complete the pool of runners available to compete in the relays and fill a vacancy left in the women’s 5,000-meter when Molly Huddle withdrew from that event to focus her efforts on the 10,000-meter.

“Sometimes, I get so caught up in the fact that I hadn’t lost a hurdles race, and I come here, and these girls are faster than me”, said McLaughlin, who admitted to being so nervous earlier in the week she considered pulling out of the meet.

Now that she’s in the Olympics, the defending champion says that, sure, she’d like to see her biggest rival there, too. “It doesn’t get any easier when you get older”, she said in an on-track interview. “I’m here just for fun”. Third-place finisher Ben Blankenship also qualified for Rio.

Men’s head coach Vin Lananna said: “We have a lot of young athletes, but I think we have a good mixture of veterans as well that will pull the young athletes along”.

She said she planned to celebrate by eating a cheeseburger and sweet potato fries.

She tried three times with the bar set at 15-11, but was unable to clear it. If the conditions are better in the Olympics, Suhr is confident she can go higher in Rio. “All year I planned for this race, and for it to end here, it’s disappointing”.
