Oklahoma State basketball player Tyrek Coger died on Thursday after collapsing following a team workout.
The 21-year-old forward who had recently transferred arrived at Stillwater Medical Center at 5:48 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m.
‘Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family. That time can be broken up as two hours on the count and six on strength and conditioning, or all eight on strength and conditioning.
Coger didn’t appear to be having any trouble during his outdoor workout on the football stadium stairs, University officials said Friday. “How could it happen to us on our campus?”
“There’s no worse feeling than getting a call about one of your players that is like this”, Underwood said.
Oklahoma State head coach Brad Underwood, in a team statement, said the loss was like losing a member of his own family. “Unfortunately in this case, there’s not a happy end to this”, Holder said.
Coger was a 6-9, 230-pound power forward that was heading to Ole Miss to play but learned earlier in the summer that he wouldn’t be allowed to because of SEC transfer rules. “I’m extremely proud to have been a part of his life”, said Coach Underwood during the press conference.
“Dreams are supposed to begin here (at Oklahoma State University)”. He was a jokester. “We lost a brother”, said Underwood, who was emotional when addressing the media, wiping away tears while speaking. “He was a sponge when it comes to wanting to be a very good ball player and a very good teammate”.
In his lone season at Cape Fear, he averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 52.6 percent from the field.
Rated as the No. 21 junior college prospect in the country by 247Sports.com, Coger originally committed to Ole Miss a year ago.

Coger, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, said in the interview that he recuperated from the surgery then started his college career at Eastern Florida State College.
