Hillary Clinton introduced running mate Tim Kaine as “a progressive who likes to get things done”, joining the Virginia senator in the crucial battleground state of Florida to help kick off next week’s Democratic National Convention.

Kaine would be the first to say it, calling himself boring during a recent interview. “With Donald Trump, it’s me first!”
Maeola Strother, a retired teacher who has known the Kaines since they joined the church, said the senator is “just Tim” when he’s at St. Elizabeth. Friends and colleagues describe Kaine as steady and even-handed, often using the word “decent” to describe his character.
Asked if he is ready to be president, Kaine said: “I’m ready first to be a supportive vice president so that the presidency of Hillary Clinton is is a fantastic one”. And if the NRA wants to attack, her team will welcome the onslaught.
“He’s just one of the members”, she said.
The former secretary of state will formally be nominated as her party’s presidential candidate in the November 8 election at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, which opens on Monday.
Holton, who wiped away tears during the speech, is the state’s education secretary and a former state judge.
Clinton is “going to need to create as much sex appeal around her candidacy as she can”, Simmons said.
Ultimately, it was Kaine that best fit that description.
“While Sen. Kaine has been open about his personal reservations about abortion, he’s maintained a 100% pro-choice voting record in the US Senate”, the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, another abortion rights group, said in a statement Friday.

Sanders has endorsed Clinton, but his delegates are pushing for a state-by-state tally.
