“We’re expecting rain into the early afternoon and then we are looking at a break and there’s a potential for another round of storms for tonight and then we’ll finally dry out tomorrow”, said NWS meteorologist Sara Schultz.
A heat dome, made of high-pressure air, is raising temperatures from Canada to Mexico affecting some 122 million Americans over an area stretching 830,000 square miles amid risky fires and thunderstorms. Scattered storms expected late day/early evening. Counties in northern and western New Jersey are under an excessive heat watch and will experience temperatures in the mid-90s. Upon the passage of the warm front, the humidity will come up quite a bit, with dew points likely surging into the upper-60s and low-70s.
Heat Advisory for the entire Miami Valley, except Montgomery County, which will be under an Excessive Heat Warning from 10 a.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Saturday.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 80s.
The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast was still suffering Sunday through heat indices – actual temperatures combined with humidity levels – of up to 110 degrees. Cooling centers are being set up in NY and temperatures on the National Mall in Washington D.C. were expected to hit 100 degrees along with smothering humidity. It’s also important to drink plenty of water, to stay hydrated. A few storms could be severe far northwest before weakening after 2 AM.
Friday: Chance for showers and thunderstorms.
