All Ford Cars Are Getting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in 2017
While that was good news for owners, now Ford has a new announcement to make: the availability of Sync 3 will also be expanded to all of the company’s 2017 models, which means Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will, as well.

This was actually announced by the company earlier this year, but the recent announcement pretty much confirms their plans.
Ford continues to expand its SYNC 3 connectivity platform – allowing compatibility of Apple CarPlay, pictured, and Android Auto – throughout its entire 2017 USA vehicle lineup of cars, SUVs, light trucks and electrified vehicles.
“We developed one platform – Sync 3 – and have been able to quickly offer the technology across our lineup”, said Ford’s global director for electrical and electronic systems engineering Chuck Gray in a statement, adding that customers will now be able to link their smartphone and access their apps through the platform in any 2017 model vehicle from Ford.
Sync 3 was introduced on a few 2016 models as a replacement for the Sync with MyFord Touch system.
The first 2017 models are already on sale at dealerships, including the Escape, Fusion, Mustang and Explorer, with others due later this year.
But if you’re not a fan of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, Ford’s own app suite, called Sync AppLink, is still on the table.
SYNC 3 is already a major leap forward in terms of functionality, simplicity, and user experience – Ford’s promise that every new model now ships “Smartphone-ready” is huge.

Android software platform is available on devices with Android 5.0 and higher and similarly delivers messaging Google Maps, calendar integration, music and phone functions using the touchscreen or the Ok Google through the voice button. You will, of course, have to purchase Sync 3 as an option if it is not included as standard in your chosen vehicle. If they have Android smartphones and get it on with Google instead, they’re free to do so as well.
