His remarks are seen as a major endorsement that may push conservatives to join moderates in supporting the agreement despite growing opposition from hard-liners.
The deal is subject to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s approval, who had not yet come out publicly in its defense of criticism.
Hard-line members of the Iranian parliament have been sharply critical of the deal, arguing it will curtail the Islamic Republic’s military endeavors.
However, he repeatedly has offered words of support for his country’s nuclear negotiators.
The nuclear deal with Iran has already been criticized for leaving much of the Iranian regime’s nuclear infrastructure in place while scurrying to lift sanctions that brought the regime to the negotiating table in the first place. The official IRNA news agency reported his comments Saturday.
The Institute for Science and worldwide Security in Washington was quick to deny on Twitter that it was one of the deal’s opponents.
Several U.S. lawmakers, including New York Sen. “Regarding Iran’s missile activities, it doesn’t order but only asks for Iran’s compliance”, Firouzabadi said, referring to an global resolution passed in the wake of the deal.

He reiterated that today the most important issue and the main concern of the Iranian officials and people is Resolution 2231 and the agreement. The Iran accord, the scientists said, has “more stringent constraints than any previously negotiated nonproliferation framework”. Others have advised Congress, the White House or federal agencies, on military security.
