Hornets co-owner irked at move of NBA All-Star game over LGBT law

Regarding the way the political system runs, if you’ll recall, the way HB 2 was passed was in a rushed special session called by Republicans hours after the bill was created that cost taxpayers $42,000 so that they could get HB2 in place before Charlotte’s LGBT nondiscrimination bill went into effect and avoid adequate public debate. He blamed the Charlotte city council for losing the game.

But HB 2 is about much more than requiring transgender people to use the restroom that corresponds to the sex listed on their birth certificate.

In a letter sent Thursday to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Mr. Pittenger said he recently met with constituencies from China, who told him about the government’s policy of “forcefully harvesting organs” and regular “oppression of religious minorities”.

Rev. Franklin Graham thinks it’s a shame that the National Basketball Association has chose to pull out their 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte, North Carolina simply because the state wishes to protect its locals and not heed the demands made by the LGBT activists to allow people to use bathrooms based on their preferred identity.

“We look forward to re-starting plans for our All-Star festivities in Charlotte for 2019 provided there is an appropriate resolution to this matter”, he said.

State Sen. Jeff Jackson, a Democrat whose district includes part of Charlotte, put the blame for the NBA’s move squarely on McCrory, saying the governor is “so closely tied to the issue”.

“The NBA is the one that controls your schedule, your television games, the NBA controls that”, he said. “Charlotte has shown its commitment to equal rights and inclusion and will continue to promote those values”, Roberts said in a statement. The annual exhibition basketball game showcasing the league’s stars draws visitors from around the country and is held in a different city each year. The Pelicans are owned by Tom Benson.

Welts, who announced he was gay in a 2011 New York Times article, said he was telling only his story, not telling the league what to do. “We will do everything possible to assist the NBA, Mr. and Mrs. Benson and the New Orleans Pelicans in their efforts, if called upon”.

On Thursday, Jordan thanked city leaders for their support. “I don’t think that’s the way we should do business and I don’t think that’s the way the political system should run”. “We are confident that they will be just as supportive and enthusiastic for the 2019 NBA All-Star Game”.
