It has been claimed an 11-year-old boy pulled him out of the lagoon, having discovered his lifeless body at around 3.50pm on Saturday.

The boy was taken to hospital but later died.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding his death and a man and a woman are now being held in police custody.

Eyewitnesses took to social media to describe what they saw – posting on Facebook, Sheena Thomas said: “My 11-year-old nephew pulled this lil boy from the water after feeling his hair whilst searching for his goggles he had lost”.

“The mother of the child is pregnant and became un well and her partner was packing the auto while looking after there almost one year old child”. I’m not saying they shouldn’t of been with him and I’m not saying they should off. “He was only on the first weekend of his school holidays”.

Sharon Robinson, who says she is Charlie’s grandma, said the incident was a “tragic accident” and “every parent’s nightmare”.

“They had been to the water park many times before”.

One mother, whose youngest child went to pre-school with Charlie, said: “I have known the family for about five years and Charlie was just a cheerful, happy and a cheeky chap”. They were just loading the vehicle ready to come back and Charlie had asked his dad if he could go to the park.

“The believed he had gone to his sister”.

“We’ve had to explain to his sister that Charlie isn’t going to be coming him”.

In a statement, it said: “Our investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing”.

Flowers and toys were left at the water park in Charlie’s memory.

We would continue to ask people not to speculate about the incident and the circumstances surrounding the death and leave the authorities to carry out their investigations.

“Mrs Robinson added: “[Paul] ran back to the vehicle and that’s when he saw a young boy being pulled out of the water.

Mrs Robinson, a carer, added: “Charlie was given CPR and paramedics also used a defibrillator”. On the way to the hospital, they managed to find a slight pulse.

“But they had to put him on life support”. We’ve tried to diplomatically tell her.
