An Andheri-based ISP has now lodged an FIR against what is known as a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.
IGP (Cyber Crime) Brijesh Singh said, “An FIR has been filed with the Cyber police station in BKC under sections 43 (F) and 66 of the Information Technology Act”.
Cyber Police IG, Brijesh Singh said that big ISPs are able to mitigate the attack to an extent and continue operations. The state police claimed that this is the first FIR to be filed regarding suck attack in the nation, and the effects of the attack are still continuing.
“We have been mitigating the attack, blocking all the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses involved as soon as we identify them”. The Cyber Crime department is now working with the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team to mitigate the attack and trace the source. The resources behind the attack have to be considerable.
IT expert Vijay Mukhi says, “The idea of a DDoS is to make a computer or a server very slow so that anyone who uses an ISP’s services can not connect. Kindly bare with us as we are trying to solve this problem in very short period with the help of high skilled technicians. please be with us and let’s fight against these hackers (sic)”.

If you have recently complained to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) about “slow internet”, chances are your ISP was unable to provide you a fix. However, the smaller ISPs are witnessing the attack on an unprecedented scale, causing major disruptions in service. Cyber lawyer Prashant Mali told the Times of India that the reason behind a DDoS attack is usually business rivalry, but the motive this time seems to be an attempt to hamper economic growth by targeting e-commerce.
