Tyler Hoechlin Still Calls Superman Role For ‘Supergirl’ Surreal

Speaking of “Supergirl”, the cast of the show took to the stage at Comic-Con for a Panel of their own, with Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, Tyler Hoechlin and executive producer Sarah Schechter filling us in on what to expect from Season 2.

“Definitely incredibly surreal. I know the character represents so much to so many people”, Tyler said. “I’m really excited”, he said. He is from the planet Daxam, but when he crash lands on Earth with amnesia, he believes he is Superman’s brother because they have similar powers and he adopts the El name. “[So] there’s some real head-butting [between him and Kara] and philosophical approaches that are different”.

The CBS-turned-CW show is introducing the Man of Steel in the first two episodes of season two, and while production has not yet begun on the sophomore frame, the Teen Wolf alum is ready to don the famed tights and cape. “We’ll get into all that”.

In one of the funnier moments of the Supergirl panel, the panelists chided Hoechlin to do the famous Superman curl. Along with Lynda Carter appearing as the President of the United States, Schechter did reveal that Chris Wood plays the mystery character that Kara found in the pod in the season finale. Schechter could offer no details, but says everyone is “super excited” about it.

As to Kara and Jimmy’s romance, Brooks said, “It’s going to have ups and downs”. “It’s a new relationship”. “We’re so grateful to CBS for launching the show and putting Melissa on buildings all over”, Schechter said, before citing the benefit of moving to The CW, home to those other superhero shows. She’s still figuring out who she is as a woman, and I’m still figuring out things about myself.
