Marlins rock Jacob deGrom early and beat Mets 7-2
The game was Reyes’ first at Marlins Park since he played for Miami in 2012, when he and the team endured a rocky season. He comes off his best game of the season in which he only allowed one hit and pitched his first career complete game.

“It’s probably the best I’ve seen him, myself”, said Marlins manager Don Mattingly.
Jacob deGrom starts tonight’s game in Miami.
Miami Marlins’ Jose Fernandez hits an RBI-single in the second inning in front of New York Mets …
“I don’t think it’s a secret that I’m not the fastest guy out there”, Conforto said. “Seemingly everything I threw went down the middle, and I paid for it”.
PADRES 5, NATIONALS 3: Matt Kemp homered twice and drove in four runs, rookie Luis Perdomo pitched seven solid innings and San Diego beat Washington to snap a four-game losing streak. In his two starts since returning from Triple-A New Orleans, Urena has allowed two runs in 11 1/3 innings. On Sunday, his one big mistake came on the pitch to Reyes, who slugged his two-out, opposite-field triple to left-center.
“Even when I was at the plate”, said Fernandez, who is hitting.265 this season, “I was ready to do whatever I could to win the game”.
Fernandez improved to 26-1 with a 1.47 ERA over his career at Marlins Park after holding the Mets to just two runs over seven innings of work.
Miami regained the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the third on Stanton’s two-run homer.
Upset with himself, deGrom wasn’t in the mood for a question about Stanton.
“I wanted to punch him hard, but I was afraid I was going to hurt my hand”, Fernandez said. The Mets right-hander allowed at least two baserunners in every inning he worked, and his ERA rose to 2.73.
Mets manager Terry Collins sent out mixed signals about when he would use Conforto in center field or even in center field, but finally pulled the trigger on the move Sunday. We talk about his age but we really shouldnt, because you just watch him play, and if he used that hair dye Keith Hernandez uses, we wouldnt know he wasnt 30..
“He was probably exhausted”, Collins said. A run scored in the 9 and the tying runs on base – I know each game can’t be this flawless neat-and-tidy 1-2-3 inning, but boy it would be nice to have them. Yoenis Cespedes and James Loney each added RBI singles in the eighth for insurance.
But that was all they managed against Fernandez.
The Marlins’ Ichiro Suzuki struck out on three pitches in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter and remained four hits shy of 3,000.
But that’s when Stanton blasted his 21st home run of the year, giving Miami a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish.
“We’re past the halfway point, and I came around previous year around this time”, Conforto said.
Fernandez got his second hit of the night to lead off the fourth, and when he came around to score on another Stanton single, and that was it for deGrom. Yelich and Adeiny Hechavarria had two hits apiece against the Mets starter. “Battling him, fighting him, making him throw a bunch of pitches and being able to put a few runs on the board at the same time”. “We’ve been good with those type of guys”.
“It’s given us trouble”. “It feels good to get a win going back home”.
Thanks in large part to Reyes – who had the first-ever Marlins hit in this stadium – the Mets (51-44) won the opening game of an important weekend series.

Matz entered this start winless in his last five starts with a 4.73 ERA in that stretch, but produced a scoreless outing for the first time since his last win on May 25.
