Blazers extend McCollum to max contract

This summer, they’ve decided to make sure they have a max backcourt moving forward. After earning the Most Improved Player Award last season and now a maximum contract extension, the next step for McCollum will be the All-Star game and possibly an All-NBA team honor.

McCollum – the No. 10 pick out of Lehigh in the 2013 NBA Draft – averaged 17 points per game in the 2015 playoffs, and his stronger play carried over into this season when he averaged 20.8 points and 4.3 assists. They have a runner up coach of the year in Terry Stotts.

In his third season and first as an everyday starter the 24-year-old took a massive step in the right direction.

CJ McCollum’s wallet just got a lot fatter. Plus McCollum’s 3-point shooting (41.7 percent last season) makes him a legitimate threat from long range, eschewing opponents’ defense to Portland’s advantage. But with his extension, that is no longer the case.
