Rio 2016: Power, plumbing fears plague Athletes Village in Rio
The plans for the summer Olympics in Brazil have been riddled with issues and problems from the beginning, and an “uninhabitable” Olympic village is just the latest tally on a long list of problems facing Rio de Janeiro.

“I nearly feel like putting a kangaroo in front of their building to make them feel at home”, mayor Eduardo Paes said, according to the Courier Mail – to which Kitty sarcastically replied to the Courier, “We’ve already got a kangaroo, we don’t need another one”.
“We are confident that our accommodation is ready to receive athletes and will be to the highest standards within the village”, said the spokesman, Scott Field. “I think it is going to be a fantastic Olympics Games”, said Team Bermuda rowing coach, Cory Bosworth.
According to Chiller, the stress test found that “water came down walls, there was a strong smell of gas in some apartments, and there was “shorting” in the electrical wiring”.
Jiu jitsu is not an Olympic sport, so Lee is not competing in the Games, but the former national jiu jitsu champion has lived in Rio for nearly a year. “We have reinforced our staff to resolve the issue”.
However, the head of the Australian Olympic team, Kitty Chiller, thanked organizers on Monday for responding promptly to her concerns by deploying hundreds of maintenance people and cleaners.
Carlo Mornati, the Italian Olympic team leader, said that some areas of the village were still not ready and that his national Olympic committee, CONI, had been hiring workmen to carry out repairs for days.
The World Health Organization has said the Rio Olympics do not pose a risk of spreading Zika, although 150 academics have called for the Games to be canceled or moved, according to the release. In the final stretch before the Games start August 5, more than 60,000 troops took positions across the city, part of an overall contingent of more than 85,000 soldiers, police and other security forces that will be deployed for the event at a time of heightened fears after recent massacres in Germany, France and the United States. At a receiving ceremony at the Village, he offered to get a kangaroo for the Australian Olympic Committee.
The apartments are to be sold after the Olympics with some prices reaching $700,000. “We’ll work out who pays the bill later on”.
New Zealand and Italy’s delegations both said they had been forced to fix problems with electricity and plumbing, while Argentina said on Monday it had reserved accommodation outside the village for part of its delegation.
