She then said she’s proud to support a president who will fight to ensure that all people who suffer from mental illness can get proper healthcare.
She says, “But I am lucky. Unfortunately, too many Americans from all walks of life don’t get help, whether they fear the stigma or can not afford treatment”.
Lovato also called on politicians to support laws that would provide access to improved health care for all those suffering with mental illness. “It is simply the right thing to do”.
In 2010, Lovato checked herself into a rehab clinic and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she has also previously opened up about her struggle with eating disorders and substance abuse issues.
Untreated mental illness can be devastating, but every person can make a difference, Lovato said.
Lovato then launched into a performance of her hit song “Confident”, which earned her a standing ovation. Other big names headlining Monday’s events included Boyz II Men, comedian Sarah Silverman, and actress Eva Longoria.
The star buzz heated up in Philadelphia for the busy first day of the Democratic National Convention with Triumph the insulting, cigar-chomping puppet dog joining sweltering street protesters and Rosario Dawson urging Bernie Sanders supporters to “listen” to their man.
Woodley urged Sanders supporters to remain calm and Sarandon thanked him for “igniting this spark”.
